A review of facilities management performance measurement

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present a comprehensive review of facilities management (FM) performance measurement (PM) research within the past two decades to understand existing gaps in FM PM literature. Design/methodology/approach The paper employs a systematic approach to review papers in FM PM published from 1997 to 2017. The articles published in selected peer-reviewed international journals in the last 20 years were collected by conducting literature search in the Web of Science and Scopus d… Show more

“…Yet most of the international and local performance measurement interventions in health care have focused on clinical performance of hospitals rather than FM (Amos et al , 2020), whereas existing performance measurement techniques are fraught with challenges and limited to FM performance measurement. Unarguably, setting standard KPIs to monitor FM service delivery is an important step towards performance measurement.…”

“…Myeda et al (2011), however, observed that the growing need for FM PM is in sharp contrast to the level of acceptance of FM PM. As a result, researchers should develop a comprehensive interest in FM PM and bridge the gap between FM research and practice (Amos et al, 2019). Further, given that measurement should lead to the systematic use of performance information through management, performance management should become an important element of PM.…”

“…Building facility managers are expected to maximize the level of performance while maintaining a limited maintenance budget [44]where lean can contribute to minimize costs by reducing non-value added activities. Adding that FM and Lean meet in the value maximization and customer satisfaction, for this reason the company decided to implement Lean 4.0 with the objective of: For the company's perspectives, it will start a major BIM integration project, with the possibility of its alignment with Lean.…”
