“…Patient satisfaction following insertion of a penile prosthesis has been reported to be as high as 90%. 3 Penile prostheses have been documented in use from as early as the 16th century. A variety of materials have been used in these prostheses over the years, progressing from rib cartilage and bone in the mid-1930s to acrylic implants in the 1960s.…”

“…Çayan et al examined the differences between dissatisfaction rates three-piece IPPs, two-piece IPPs, and malleable prostheses, and found there were no differences between the two- and three-piece IPPs (3.8% and 3.3%, respectively) but malleable prostheses had a significantly higher dissatisfaction rate (11.2%) ( 111 ). Though a perceived loss of penile length is associated with dissatisfaction, it should be noted that in many cases there may actually not be a decrease in penile length following IPP implantation ( 112 ).…”

“…The most common cause of patient regret after penile prosthesis surgery is perceived penile shortening. [1][2][3] Penile shortening in the absence of IPP insertion can be caused by conditions such as Peyronie's disease (PD), priapism with corporal brosis, and prostate cancer treated with radical prostatectomy, radiation, and or/androgen deprivation therapy. 4 Studies have shown that actual penile length after IPP is not different than stretched accid penile length, but rather perceived impression of penile shortening is more signi cant after IPP insertion in men with a prior history of radical prostatectomy.…”
