A Review of Metal Concentrations Measured in Surface Soil Samples Collected on and Around the Hanford Site

Abstract: As part of the routine Hanford Site environmental surveillance program, researchers with the Surface Environmental Surveillance Project (SESP) collected soil samples at 41 locations on and around the Hanford Site in 2008. These samples were analyzed for metals in addition to the normal radiological constituents. In 2004 and 2005, soil samples were collected at 117 locations on the Hanford Reach National Monument (HRNM) and analyzed for radionuclides in support of the radiological release of that property. In 2… Show more

“…In addition to Cr(VI), this site is contaminated with other metals (e.g., As, Cd, Pb), though at low concentrations (0.8−20.1 mg/kg). 20 A large number (3728) of genes involved in the resistance to other metals (e.g., As, Cd, Co, Ni, Pb, Hg, Se, Ag, Te) were detected as well, and some of them increased (P < 0.05) after HRC amendment (SI Figure S12). ).…”

“…Major contaminants in the groundwater are Cr(VI) (52−84 μg/L), NO 3 − (30−60 mg/L), and SO 4 −2 (56− 86 mg/L), though other metals are also present. 20 To perform field investigations, two ∼18.3 m deep, 15 cm diameter boreholes were cored, forming two wells (699−96−45 (45) and 699−96−44 (44)) ∼5 m apart (SI Figure S1B). The regional groundwater flows from well 45 to well 44.…”

“…La concentration en titane dans les sols varie en fonction de la pédologie des sites étudiés entre 1 à 5 g/kg de titane (Connor and Shacklette, 1975 ;Fritz, 2009). Dans certains sols, la concentration peut aller de 10 à 100 g/kg.…”
