A Review of Methodologies for Safety and Hazard Management in Chemical Industries

Abstract: The growth in chemical industry has also led to the use of more hazardous chemicals, most often at extreme pressures and temperatures. This escalates the risk factors of a particular operation. Due to this, safety, risk assessment, and hazard management have gained utmost importance. Though a complete, full-proof mechanism is not achievable, efforts are made to minimize the hazard level with a comprehensive and exhaustive survey of the available methods and develop a superior safety mechanism. Various measures… Show more

“…The obtained R 2 value of full sensitivity profile was 0.745 and 19 F was 0.732, whereas mean absolute error was 0.00384 for sensitivity profile and 0.00429 for 19 F respectively. The increase in mean absolute error was observed when the features are restricted to 19 F sensitivities. Therefore, to identify the reason of bias the SHAP anal-ysis was performed for both data sets.…”

“…The subsequent field of activities in process engineering is process design, process control, operation and tools [17]. In addition to this, supply chain, research and development may be considered as tasks overlapping with engineering tasks and for each field some subfields also exist such as life cycle management, process assessment, quality control, defects identification in product and equipment [15,18], risk identification and management [19]. The main fields and sub tasks in process engineering are shown in Fig.…”

“…To understand accident mechanisms and to develop accident prevention and control strategies it is important to know and learn from past accidents (Hyatt, 2003). However, the industry is generally reluctant to reveal what has happened and tends to belittle their mistakes (Chikhalikar & Jog, 2018). A hazard is an inherent physical or chemical characteristic that has the potential to cause harm to people, property or the environment.…”
