A Review on Extraction of Bioactive Compounds from Moringa oleifera Leaves: Their Principle, Advantages, and Disadvantages

Abstract: Moringa oleifera, belongs to the Moringaceae family, is an indigenous plant and native to the North India region. It has been used for centuries as traditional medicine and nutritional supplement. Moringa olefeira leaves contain high phenolics and flavonoid compounds as major constituents such as kaempferol, quercetin, caffeoylquinic acid, coumaroylquinic acid, and feruloylquinic acid. The extraction techniques play a critical role in the extraction outcome such as crude extracts yield, type and quantity of co… Show more

“…Factors influencing the maceration process results are temperature, solvent types and concentration, duration, and other factors. 22 The extraction of M. oleifera leaves using methanol as a solvent with 72 hours of maceration showed positive saponin results on the phytochemical screening. 7 Positive saponin results were also obtained in the extraction using ethanol as the solvent with a maceration time of 72 hours.…”

“…A high-yield purified protein extract from M. oleifera seeds was obtained by ultrasoundassisted extraction, in which ultrasound power and pH were the two most influential experimental parameters impacting protein yield and quality [55]. Other factors such as temperature, time, and cost also impact the biocomponents extracted from M. oleifera and should be carefully optimized, depending on the specific requirements of the intended application [56].…”
