“…Several comparisons and tests conducted by researchers regarding the application of fishing technology [25] yielded the same or almost the same conclusions that with mastery of access to technology [26], a large enough catch by a group in the fishing community in the form of ownership, capital as well as businesses in this field, causing the level of mobilization of the use of technology they have, having many choices regarding fishing ground areas [27] including areas that actually can only be used by traditional fishermen due to the limited technology they have they can enter as competitors to compete for resources-capture fisheries.…”

“…The heterogenization of the marine catch was driven by fish with smaller size and living in the upper water in the earlier period, but in the latter period, it was driven by fish with bigger size and living in the deeper water. These may be explained by changes in fishing technologies, it's known that the trawl net has long been the most important fishing gear, accounting for almost half of China's marine fish catch, but amounts of non-target species and juveniles of target species are caught by trawls because of their lack of selectively, which seriously affects fishery resources 35 , thus we assume that the overfishing by extensive use of trawl cause the composition of marine catch rapidly change in the earlier period. But with the increase in human demand for the marine catch, gill-net, and stow-net are been widely used and became important fishing gear in the latter period (Supplementary Fig.…”

“…But with the increase in human demand for the marine catch, gill-net, and stow-net are been widely used and became important fishing gear in the latter period (Supplementary Fig. 7), and the minimum mesh size, particularly gillnet, is generally large than trawl-net 35 , along with the growth of shipping industries, leading to the resource depletion of fish with bigger size and living in the deep water.…”

“…According to the FAO standard, stow nets, one of the most widely used gears in China, were categorized under 'traps' (Shen & Heino, 2014). Since previous studies have demonstrated varied targeting behaviours between major fishing gears in China (trawls, stow nets and gillnets) (Wang et al, 2022), we therefore considered gear category as a vital variable in the data synthesis and hypothesized that there would be a gear-effect related to selectivity and occurrence of mixed fisheries.…”
