Abstract:Fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composites are increasingly considered for lightweight cryogenic pressure vessels due to their excellent combination of tailorability, specific mechanical properties, and relatively low coefficients of thermal expansion. However, significant challenges must be overcome to fully utilize PMCs for cryogenic fuel tanks in terms of transverse microcracking and subsequent permeation of cryogenic fuel. Gas permeation and microcrack densities of cryogenically cycled composites are highl… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
