A Review on Health Monitoring of Heritage Site Structures

Abstract

Civil engineering has been one of the most important domains for the country since years and is the less digitalized sector. Advancement of the technology is required to enhance the outcome of the processes involved in the construction field. Heritage, being the integral part of the Civil Engineering holds great significance for culture of the country. It is important for the history and tradition of the culture. To preserve history and culture, heritage must be protected. Civil Engineering plays responsible role in these processes. Structural health monitoring is important to identify the extent of the deterioration and to provide remedial measures in order to preserve them. Non destructive testing and Structural Health Monitoring are known method of detecting the damage in heritage sites. In this paper different methods used to identify the damage are discussed such as Digital image processing, XRF analysis, XRD analysis, Porosity and many more. The present paper is an attempt to understand a variety of stresses and factors with a focus on non-destructive testing and structural health monitoring. The methods are discussed to identify research gaps and to find suitable solutions for the deteriorated heritage structures.
