A Review on Power Quality in Grid Connected Renewable Energy System

Abstract: This paper presents a review on power quality problems associated with the integration of renewable energy systems in to grid and it shows how power electronic devices and Flexible AC Transmission Systems play a role to mitigate the power quality problems. Photo Voltaic (PV) and Wind energy systems integration issues and associated power quality problems are discussed. Classification of various Power Quality Issues used by different researchers has been done and put for reference. Application of various techni… Show more

“…This is due to the intermittency of power generation of RESs, such as solar and wind, as well as the presence of power electronics devices, such as converters, which can disrupt smooth operation [124]. As described in [125] and [126], microgrids could experience PQ issues due to the increased penetration of non-linear loads and power electronics necessary to interface DERs. Phenomena such as voltage magnitude variation, voltage sags, swells, flicker, harmonics, unbalance, or natural and reactive power problems have been observed in microgrids and have been discussed in multiple papers [58].…”

“…As described in Prabaakaran, Chitra, and Kumar (2013) and Kumar and Venkateshwarlu (2013), the increased penetration of non-linear loads and power electronicinterfaced distributed generation systems (DGs) can cause power quality (PQ) issues in microgrids. PQ issues in microgrids such as voltage magnitude variation (voltage band), voltage sags and swells, flicker, harmonics, unbalance, or real and reactive power problems have been analyzed in several papers in recent years.…”
