A Review on Primary School Children’s Meta-Cognition Development

Abstract

Children's meta-cognition is one of the important fields in modern cognitive, developmental and educational psychology. Meta-cognition can be defined as the evaluation and control of one's cognitive processes, and is an essential capability for individuals to effectively regulate their learning activities and improve learning efficiency. The present article analyzed the relevant literature on the meta-cognition development, which includes the two components: meta-cognitive knowledge, and meta-cognitive monitor and control. The research methodology employed and the issues concerned widely by researchers were also introduced. The present article also emphasized on the developmental trends of each meta-cognitive component. Finally, the summary and prospect of the study on the meta-cognition development were given.
