A review on techniques for improving the mechanical properties of fusion welded joints

Abstract: This paper presents the effect of Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT), pulsed current welding, hybrid welding and vibratory assisted welding in the weld quality, residual stresses and mechanical properties of welded joints. At last, vibratory assisted welding has been suggested to enhance the mechanical properties of welded joints by overcoming the drawbacks in the above stated techniques. Past results showed that the welded test specimens under vibratory conditions exhibited improvements in mechanical properties … Show more

“…Numerical simulation of 3-dimensional planar crack propagation can be constructed as a gradual process of crack increments (after finite number of cycles ΔN) in a limited set of the crack front points, the position of which is characterized by a dimensionless local coordinate s along the crack front from one external point to other points and has a range [0;1] ( Figure 1). In the calculation procedure, an infinitely small value dN is replaced by a finite cycle increment ΔN and the crack increment da is replaced by Δa in Equation (5). So the crack increment at the current crack front configuration (after N cycles) is calculated according to the following equation:…”

“…The mechanical properties which are produced under the effect of excitations are validated with the finite element analysis. J. Kalpana et.al [5][6] introduced another new technique i.e., metal engravers to enhance the weld joint mechanical properties of the welded joints by. Here the dissimilar metals were considered for welding process.…”
