A Review on Utilization of Fly- Ash and Pond-Ash as a Partial Replacement of Cement in Concrete Mix Design

Abstract: Now-a-days energy planners are aiming to increase the use of renewable energy sources and nuclear to meet the electricity generation. But till now coal-based power plants are the major source of electricity generation. Disadvantages of coal-based thermal power plants is disposal problem of fly ash and pond ash. It was earlier considered as a total waste and environmental hazard thus its use was limited, but now its useful properties have been known as raw material for various application in construction field.… Show more

“…Usage of more granite dust led to many advantages in construction and stone industries, such as lower disposal costs (or cost of a landfill), according to (Li et al ., 2019), the promotion of a sustainable environment according to (Aydin and Arel, 2019), enhancement in the properties of cementitious composites according to (Singh et al ., 2016) and advancement in sustainable development according to (Sadek et al ., 2016). According to (Patel et al ., 2015), the chemical characterization of granite dust is similar to that of the basic ingredients used to manufacture cement. In accordance with (International and indexed by mero, 1994), a material can be added to the concrete as a pozzolanic material if the total percentage of alumina, silica and ferric oxide is greater than 70%.…”

“…The current state of concrete production should not continue on inherited conventional PC technology of the twentieth century [7]. The emissions from PC production can be reduced by using an alternative binder for concrete production or partially replacing cement in concrete production [8][9][10]. Given the present global attention on environmental awareness, industries today should strive to attain sustainability through input maximization or the effective management of generated wastes [11].…”
