Abstract:Alien species constitute one of the main threats to freshwater ecosystems, negatively impacting biodiversity, economy, and ecosystem services. Here, we use morphological and genetic data to show the presence of a new alien freshwater sponge in Europe, Rosulaspongilla rhadinaea, a Ponto-Caspian species which recently has been found in the fluvial port of Seville (Guadalquivir River, Spain).
