A Scalable Limited Feedback Design for Network MIMO Using Per-Cell Product Codebook

Abstract: In network MIMO systems, channel state information is required at the transmitter side to multiplex users in the spatial domain. Since perfect channel knowledge is difficult to obtain in practice, limited feedback is a widely accepted solution. The dynamic number of cooperating BSs and heterogeneous path loss effects of network MIMO systems pose new challenges on limited feedback design. In this paper, we propose a scalable limited feedback design for network MIMO systems with multiple base stations, multiple … Show more

“…Moreover, we leave the analysis on stochastic geometric approach under V-MIMO system, where it can represent the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms on more realistic environment. 1 The usage of codebook designs exploiting the channel statistics, such as [24,25], can improve the system performance in V-MIMO transmission.…”

“…A popular feedback architecture is a codebook approach where an index of a codeword in a predetermined codebook is fed back to the transmitter [7]. There have been many studies on the performance of codebook based multi-user MIMO systems using various transmission schemes such as zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming [8], block diagonalization (BD) [9], [10], and the unitary precoding [11].…”

“…In addition, we select the per point PMIs independently. Joint per point PMI selection for JT transmission has been proposed in [32]. While joint per point PMI selection improves the performance of JT transmission compared to independent per point PMI selection, such a joint selection increases the selection complexity and moreover is suboptimal for DPS and fallback transmission.…”
