A Search for Third Generation Leptoquarks in p$\bar{p}$ Collisions at 1.8-TeV

Abstract: This thesis presents the results of a searcJ<'[hird generation leptoquarks in 72 pb-1 of pp collisions at .y'S = 1.8 TeV. The data were collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) during the 1992-1995 Collider runs. Leptoquarks (LQ) are spin-0 or spin-1 particles which couple both to a quark and a lepton. Third generation leptoquarks are assumed to be produced in pairs and each to decay to a tau lepton + b quark with a branching ratio (3. The signature for leptoquarks investigated here is two taus plu… Show more

“…The medical field is increasingly interested in using social media such as Facebook and Twitter for delivering health interventions, including interventions that involve peer-to-peer social support and information exchange such as online self-help groups [ 1 ]. Social media holds promise for delivering health interventions because it is popular; 73% of online adults reportedly use social media with 42% using multiple sites and often daily [ 2 ].…”

“…Other programs written for Twitter can download past tweets into searchable databases, and all of this has substantial utility for supporting and understanding health behavior change. As a result, there is an abundance of health and medical applications of Twitter [ 1 ].…”

“…Let F = ⊕ k i=1 F i and G = ⊕ l j=1 G j , where F i , G j are indecomposable. Since any φ ∈ Hom(F , G) is determined by its restriction φ i to each F i , and each φ i by its projections φ ij ∈ Hom(F i , G j ), we have Hom(F , G) ⊂ ⊕ i,j Hom(F i , G j ) By Lemmas 4, 5, and 6, each Hom(F i , G j ) is finite, and this proves part (1). Part (2) follows from Theorem 3.…”

“…It is known that the abelian category Coh(X) of coherent sheaves on X is finitary, and one can therefore consider its Ringel-Hall algebra H(X). This algebra was studied by Kapranov in the important paper [11] (see also [1]), in the context of automorphic forms over the function field F q (X). Let Lsl 2 := sl 2 ⊗ C[t, t −1 ] be the loop algebra of sl 2 , and U ν (Lsl 2 ) the corresponding quantum loop algebra (see [16]) .…”

“…Alberto Giacometti proposed using one of the pedestals to display a very small figure, arguing "it matters not whether a figure is big or small, the only important consideration is that it should dominate the space". 28 However, the proposal was rejected in favour of another of the artist's works, Cube (1933), which, according to his brother Bruno, was the sole example of abstract sculpture anywhere at the expo. 29 There are tellingly no photographs of this courtyard, as perhaps befits its status as an aesthetic outlier.…”
