A secure RFID-based track and trace solution in supply chains

Abstract: Supply chain traceability and visibility are key concerns for many companies. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is an enabling technology that allows identification of objects in a fully automated manner via radio waves. The EPCglobal Network is promoting a standardised way for using RFID technology through the use of inexpensive RFID tags and readers, The EPCglobal standard leverages on the pervasive Internet for effective information sharing of tracked items. This paper presents a research effort underta… Show more

“…In addition, a new solution using both RFID and GPS technologies is proposed in [10] and allows tracking for the logistics supply chain. Also, other traceability solutions for supply chain management are proposed in [11] and [12]. In [13], authors presented a solution to track animals in zoos, based on RFID, GPS and sensors.…”

“…By leveraging EPCglobal standards, an integrated security control mechanism is introduced in [17,18] to handle the privacy protection and security issues in dynamic supply chain tracking and tracing applications. The mechanism comprises a tag-reader security scheme, and proposes a higher level Circleof-Trust model (COT) for sharing tracking and tracing data.…”

“…Without flexible and reliable privacy protection mechanism for integrating the two, the supply chain will become 'only as strong as its weakest link'. In the prior works described above, most solutions focus on pre-set data accessing rules/policies except the one in [17,18], which can not efficiently handle the dynamics of B2B and B2G relationships. In addition, as far as we know, few works have been done in unifying the privacy protection mechanism for communicating tracking and tracing data over dynamic B2B relationship including subcontracting and B2G relationship.…”

“…It includes the flows of materials, information, and finances (HE et al, 2008). Based on the concept of supply chain, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has expanded the scope of the definition for supply chain management, concerned with the integration of supply and demanded the management within and across companies.…”

“…Track and trace in supply chain requires identification of items, capture of events as the items move through supply chain and query of events for the visibility of the items (HE et al, 2008).…”
