Today, several sectors are demanding the track of their objects to improve the efficiency and reliability of the system. RFID technology enables an automatic identification of objects attached to RFID tags via radio waves and allows reading or writing data without physical contact between an RFID reader and a tag. The main engine of RFID development is the need for traceability in order to ensure the authenticity of objects, avoid counterfeiting and track all events in the system. So, RFID technology adds intelligence to the process of identification and traceability and it is the best choice to create tracking systems. Our work aims to provide a secure RFID track and trace architecture which can be implemented in many areas and to design an RFID multi-frequency HF/UHF reader able to interact with HF or UHF tags. Moreover, to ensure and complete the historization of all sector events, we propose to enrich our traceability system with enforceable proofs through an electronic safe Cloud-based platform in a secure manner. The integration of RFID technology with a Cloud platform allows to link RFID objects to the Internet. Consequently, this network of networks represents the concept of the Internet of Things which is the key enabler for our traceability system. The present article is a report of our current research effort and our planned future work.

Growing complexity and uncertainty are still the key challenges enterprises are facing in managing and re-engineering their existing supply chains. To tackle these challenges, they are continuing innovating management practices and piloting emerging technologies for achieving supply chain visibility, agility, adaptability and security. Nowadays, subcontracting has already become a common practice in modern logistics industry through partnership establishment between the involved stakeholders for delivering consignments from a consignor to a consignee. Companies involved in international supply chain are piloting various supply chain security and integrity initiatives promoted by customs to establish trusted business-to-customs partnership for facilitating global trade and cutting out avoidable supply chain costs and delays due to governmental regulations compliance and unnecessary customs inspection. While existing Auto-ID enabled tracking and tracing solutions are promising for implementing these practices, they provide few efficient privacy protection mechanisms for stakeholders involved in the international supply chain to communicate logistics data over dynamic business-to-business and business-government relationships. A unified privacy protection mechanism is proposed in this work to fill in this gap.

Supply chain traceability and visibility are key concerns for many companies. RadioFrequency Identification (RFID) is an enabling technology that allows identification of objects in a fully automated manner via radio waves. Nevertheless, this technology has limited acceptance and high costs. This paper presents a research effort undertaken to design a track and trace solution in supply chains, using quick response code (or QR Code for short) as a less complex and cost-effective alternative for RFID in supply chain management (SCM). A first architecture proposal using open source software will be presented as a proof of concept. The system architecture is presented in order to achieve tag generation, the image acquisition and pre-processing, product inventory and tracking. A prototype system for the tag identification is developed and discussed at the end of the paper to demonstrate its feasibility.Keywords: QR Code. Tagging. Supply chain management. System architecture. UML. Resumo:Rastreabilidade e visibilidade na cadeia de suprimentos são preocupações centrais para muitas empresas. A Identificação por Radiofrequência (Radio-Frequency Identification -RFID) é uma tecnologia que permite a identificação de objetos de uma forma totalmente automatizada por meio de ondas de rádio. Todavia, esta tecnologia possui aceitação limitada e custos elevados. Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa que teve o objetivo de projetar uma solução de controle e rastreamento na cadeia de suprimentos, utilizando o código de resposta rápida (QR Code) como uma alternativa menos complexa e com boa relação custo-benefício para a etiqueta RFID no gerenciamento da cadeia de suprimentos. Uma primeira proposta de arquitetura, usando software de código aberto, é apresentada como uma prova de conceito. A arquitetura do sistema exposta tem a finalidade de propiciar a geração de etiquetas, a aquisição e pré-processamento de imagens, e inventário e rastreamento de produtos. Um sistema protótipo para a identificação de etiquetas foi desenvolvido e discutido ao final do artigo para demonstrar a viabilidade de uma possível implantação.
