Abstract:We report a novel "turn off" fluorescent probe, BTC (Bis Thiophene Chalcone), for the selective detection of ferric ions in DMF: H 2 O. 2-acetyl benzo[b] thiophene and 5-bromo-2,2 0 -bithiophene 5-carboxaldehyde were condensed to synthesize chalcone BTC. The metal ion sensing study showed that BTC was highly selective toward Fe 3+ ions over other tested metal ions. Job's plot showed the 1:1 stoi-
