“…[29][30][31] Pseudorotaxanes constructed from CBPQT 4+ have attracted interest due to their tuneable complexation properties, 32 and formation of coloured guest-specific complexes. 33 In a previous communication, 34 we reported that a LCST-mediated transition of a naphthalene functionalised a Univ Lille Nord de France, F-59000 Lille, France b USTL, Unit e des Mat eriaux Et Transformations (UMET, UMR 8207), Ing enierie des Syst emes polym eres (ISP) Team, F-59650 Villeneuve d'Ascq Cedex, France. “…4 Pseudorotaxanes constructed from the electron-deficient cyclophane cyclobis(paraquat-p-phenylene) (CBPQT 4+ ) and electron-rich guests have become important assemblies for the creation of functional supramolecular systems with tuneable complexation properties. 5 In particular, the virtues of CBPQT 4+ , such as its well-established synthetic protocols, 6 controllable complexation properties 7 in both organic and aqueous solvents, 8 and ability to form guest-specific coloured complexes, 9 have ensured that this cyclophane has become a versatile building block for the construction of self-assembling systems with machine-like properties. 10 Thus, these combined features nominate this cyclophane as an attractive building block for incorporation into tuneable supramolecular polymers.…”

“…8 This is primarily due to: the ability to synthesize this cyclophane in reasonable quantities; 9 its ability to have its recognition properties tuned by redox processes; 10 its ability to form complexes in both organic and aqueous media 11 and its formation of guest-specific coloured complexes that conveniently allows guest exchange reactions to be monitored using UV-Vis spectroscopy. 12 Here, we report a biotinylated naphthalene derivative 2 that has the propensity to bind to avidin strongly. The electron-rich naphthalene moiety of 2 is a proven effective guest for 1, 12 thereby allowing the creation a bioconjugate possessing an artificial binding site for CBPQT 4+ , and thus facilitating the formation of a pseudorotaxane.…”
