A series of highly quantum efficiency PMMA luminescent films doped with Eu-complex as promising light-conversion molecular devices

Abstract: In this paper, a series of Eu/PMMA and Eu/ PMMA/SiO 2 luminescent films have been designed, fabricated and characterized. Thermo-gravimetric analysis and photo-luminescence results indicated the Eu-complex precursor was successfully immobilized in PMMA matrix through the interaction between the Eu-complex and the -C=O groups of the PMMA matrix. The emission spectra of the Eu-complex and Eu/PMMA films recorded at 25°C exhibited the characteristic bands arising from the 5 D 0 / 7 F J . The fact that the quantum … Show more

“…PMMA is one of the most common matrices used for incorporating metal−organic ligand complexes to enhance the photostabilities of selected metal complexes. 45,46 Like PMMA, CAB also has very attractive properties, such as biocompatibility, high transparency, and a high film-forming capacity. In addition, CAB is not only thermally stable to 300 °C but also photochemically stable for (UV) wavelength longer than 280 nm.…”

“…For the hybrid films, polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and cellulose acetate butyrate (CAB) are selected as the host polymers. PMMA is one of the most common matrices used for incorporating metal–organic ligand complexes to enhance the photostabilities of selected metal complexes. , Like PMMA, CAB also has very attractive properties, such as biocompatibility, high transparency, and a high film-forming capacity. In addition, CAB is not only thermally stable to 300 °C but also photochemically stable for (UV) wavelength longer than 280 nm. , In addition, quantum mechanical calculations using density function theory (DFT) and Zerner’s intermediate neglect of differential overlap (ZINDO) are performed to obtain the equilibrium geometries.…”

“…Lanthanide ions present an intrinsic luminescence (from 4f–4f intraconfigurational transitions) with great color purity, high luminescence quantum yields, and long-lived emission bands . Hence, this combination of features from both organic–inorganic hybrids and lanthanide ions have attracted the attention of the scientific community, and it has become a broad field of research. …”
