A Short Form of the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems Circumples Scales

Abstract: The 127-item Inventory of Interpersonal Problems (IIP) has proven useful in capturing clinically important aspects of client's interpersonal functioning. Alden, Wiggins, and Pincus constructed a 64-item circumplex form of the IIP (IIP-C). We found that an even shorter form was needed for situations involving the screening of patients in a brief time. We, therefore, constructed a 32-item short circumplex form (IIP-SC). This form was found to exhibit excellent internal consistency reliability and strong test-ret… Show more

“…The IIP is a self-report measure assessing eight dimensions of interpersonal problems: Domineering/Controlling, Vindictive/Self-Centred, Cold/Distant, Socially Inhibited, Non-Assertive, Overly Accommodating, Self-Sacrificing, and Intrusive/Needy, with subscale scores ranging from 0 to 32 and a total score range of 0–256. The reliability of the Dutch IIP-64 (Cronbach’s α range .73–.85 for subscales and .93–.94 for the total score; [47, 48]) and original IIP-32 (Cronbach’s α range .68–.88 for subscales and .73–.85 for the total score; [49]) are good. In the current sample Cronbach’s α was high for the total score for both the 64-item and 32-item version; α = .94 and α = .81 respectivly.…”

“…The alpha coefficients for these scales ranged from .77 to .95. The Inventory of Interpersonal Problems-Short Circumplex (IIP-SC; Hopwood et al 2008;Soldz et al 1995) is a 32-item measure of interpersonal problems. Its total score (alpha = .90) represents interpersonal distress.…”
