A Simple and Rapid Estimation of Totals Polyphenols Based On Carbon Paste Electrode Modified with Ruthenium Oxo‐Complex

Abstract: A simple and fast method based on electrochemical measurements was proposed for estimation of total polyphenols using a carbon paste modified electrode. The method was based on catalytic response exhibited by a ruthenium complex [(bpy)2(NH3)RuIII(µ‐O)RuIII(NH3)(bpy)2]4+ in presence of gallic acid (GA). Calibration plots using chronoamperometry (CA) showed a linear response for GA concentrations ranging from 6.6×10−6 to 1.9×10−4 mol L−1 with a detection limit of 4.9×10−7 mol L−1. Comparative studies using the o… Show more

“…A chemically modified CPE is obtained by the simple addition of the chemical modifier to the mixture between graphite powder and the binder agent. Several chemical modifiers have been used such as ion exchange materials, 6,7 silica, and organofunctionalized silicas, [8][9][10][11] metallic nanoparticles, 12,13 oxides 14 and complexes, 15,16 carbon nanotubes, 17 etc. These materials have allowed the preparation of CPEs with superior analytical performance extending their application to trace analysis of different kinds of analytes, such as metal ions, 18,19 drugs, 20,21 organic pollutants, 22 and biologically important compounds.…”

“…In the other hand, flavonoids compounds as catechin and quercetin (which are commonly found in wines samples) promote an increase in the amperometric response suggesting that these species can be also estimated in the proposed procedure. Some electroanalytical methodologies using chemically modified electrodes applied for estimation of antioxidant capacity have led to more elevate values because there is a catalytic effect towards several compounds present in the wine samples similar which also occur in the FC method.…”

“…Fig. S2 shows voltammograms at scan rates ranging between 5 and 100 mV s −1 from which one infers that the electrochemical reaction is diffusion controlled for GCE, CNB/GCE and CNB-AgNP/GCE, as the peak current (I P ) (anodic) varied with the square root of the scan rate [37]. The slope in log I P versus log v plots was 0.44 (GCE bare), 0.48 (CNB/GCE) and 0.49 (CNB-AgNP/GCE), as shown in the inset in Fig.…”
