A simple concentration method for the detection of parasitic ova and cysts in faeces.

Abstract: (1967) and (d) as (b) but with 10% NaCI added to the diluent reagent. This finding is substantiated by the results from 67 different sera analysed in duplicate by the manual and the modified AutoAnalyzer methods (Fig. 1). Although there is good correlation between the two methods (correlation coefficient r = 0-995), the results given by the latter method are higher (regression coefficient b = I -I).An attempt to improve further the modified AutoAnalyzer method by increasing the concentration of NaCl from 5 to … Show more

“…Blood count included haemoglobin and peripheral white blood count and differential formula; determination of semi quantitative CRP was performed using the commercial kit Humatex ® CRP(Human Gessellshaff, Wiesbaden, Germany); sodium, potassium and calcium in plasma using Photometry using Sherwood ® Model 410 Classic Flame Photometer Range (Sherwood Scientific Limited, Cambridge, UK); latex test for rotavirus using Rida ® Quick Rotavirus/Adenovirus Combi (R-Biopharm AG, Darmstadt, Germany) and parasitological assessment by PAF technique by Lugol method [ 17 ]. Stool culture was performed for enteropathogenic, toxigenic, enteroadherent, enteroaggregative, invasive and enterohemorrhagic E coli , Salmonella typhi and Shigella sp , applying routine procedures (Agar base, MacConkey Agar, SS agar and Tetrahionate Broth Base.…”

“…For the detection of rotavirus in faeces the Rida Quick Rotavirus kit was used (R-Biopharm, Darmstadt, Germany). Parasitological assessment by PAF technique by Lugol method [13]. Stool cultures were performed for enteropathogenic, toxigenic, enteroadhaerent, enteroaggregative, invasive and enterohaemorrhagic E. coli and for Salmonella typhi and Shigella spp using routine procedures (Agar Base, McConkey, SS Agar and Tetrathionate Broth Base (Bacto Difco, Kansas, USA).…”

“…The best of these stains is that of Thompson (1972) which also enhances somewhat the structure of cysts: add a drop of a mixture in equal parts of 10 % w/v aqueous nigrosin and 1 % w/v aqueous alcian blue.…”
