A simple cyst is not always simply a cyst: A case of cystic recurrence after nephrectomy for tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma and literature review

Abstract: Tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma is a rare subtype of renal tumor according to the 2016 World Health Organization, and less than 100 cases have been documented up to date in literature. The imaging features are not well known and to the best of our knowledge, there is not a radiology description of recurrence from tubulocystic renal cell carcinoma in the literature. We describe the case of a 70-year-old man with unusual cystic lesions in the left hypochondrium 11 years after a nephrectomy for tubulocystic ren… Show more

“…Although a few case reports showed an inadequate response to Sunitinib (tyrosine kinase inhibitor) and Everolimus (mTOR inhibitor), Targeted therapy in Metastatic TC-RCC have not been reliably documented yet (2,11). In addition, liver and bone metastases were defined in a TC-RCC case presented by Salvatori et al, and Pazopanib and Nivolumab were administered for treatment (12). In our case, we did not consider counseling oncology, as no evidence of recurrence or metastasis was observed in the patient, whom we followed up regularly for about two years after surgery.…”

“…Although majority of TC-RCCs behave indolently, there still exist reports of tumor recurrence and distant metastasis. [8][9][10] Given the evolving body of knowledge on TC-RCC, an integrative approach to management becomes imperative to providing optimal care.…”

“…Известно, что в большинстве наблюдений опухоль представлена одиночным хорошо отграниченным от ткани почки неинкапсулированным образованием. Размер опухоли варьирует от 0,7 до 21 см, и в среднем составляет 4,2 см (медиана: 9 см); размер 40% опухолей -менее 2 см [1,8,12,13]. На разрезе опухоль белесоватого или серого цвета, губчатого вида (т.н.…”
