Apple pomace, a solid waste from apple processing industries, was used as the raw material for production of a protein enriched product. The experiments were conducted on a small scale in Erlenmeyer flasks or 4-1 fermentors in batch and fed-batch processes using Saccharomycopsis lipolytica and Trichoderma reesei in single and mixed cultures. The results obtained indicate the technical feasibility of the process for obtaining products containing 13% to 15% protein, on dry basis, which is adequate for cattle feeding.
