A Simple Method of Calibrating a Wavemeter

Abstract

There are very elegant methods of calibrating a wavemeter in the microwave frequency range. 1 They are: (1) calibrating the given wavemeter against a heterodyne frequency meter, (2) calibrating against a coaxial-line wavemeter and (3) calibrating against a cavity of known calibration. These methods are very accurate and can be used for calibrating a given wavemeter. The method described below of calibrating a wavemeter is simple and at the same time yields comparatively accurate results.This method consists in calibrating the wavemeter by using a standing wave detector and measuring the guide wavelength in a waveguide system.
