A simple terahertz spectrometer based on a low-reflectivity Fabry-Perot interferometer using Fourier transform spectroscopy

Abstract: A simple terahertz (THz) Fourier transform spectrometer is theoretically and experimentally demonstrated with a low-reflectivity Fabry-Perot interferometer. Composed with only two parallel low reflectivity surfaces, this simple spectrometer has the ability to measure the spectrum over more than one octave with a controllable resolution. The emission spectra of a wavelength-tunable photonic transmitter excited by an optical coherent control system are determined by the spectrometer. With a simple algorithm for … Show more

“…of SPIE 60130I-5 Michelson delay time shows a peak radiation frequency ~ 442GHz which is close to the excitation frequency of the photonic transmitter and the FWHM of the THz radiation is ~50GHz. The experimental result reveals that the radiation from the photonic transmitter is also quasi-CW, following our expectation [25]. Fig.…”

“…4(a) and (b) shows the stretched optical excitation pulse width after grating pair and recorded modulated beating pulse at τ=0.42ps Michelson delay time. Its corresponding spatial domain trace of generated THz wave and spectrum measured by Fabry-Perot based THz spectrometer [25] are shown in Fig. 5(a) and (b).…”

“…There are several types of FTS; for example, the lamellar grating interferometer [3], Martin-Puplett interferometer [4], low-reflectivity Fabry-Perot interferometer [5] (where the low-reflectivity etalon means that the interferogram is similar to that of the Michelson interferometer) and Michelson interferometer [6]. We use a Michelson interferometer for its simplicity and compactness.…”

“…THz interferometric imaging has been used in medical endoscopes [31], detection of concealed objects [32], surface topography [33] and applications in synthetic aperture imaging [34] , [35]. Many types of interferometers have been used for THz interferometry and interferometric imaging including Michelson interferometers [24], [29], Mach-Zehnder interferometers [36], Fabry-Perot interferometers [37], [31], Murty (Shearing) interferometers [38], and…”
