Abstract: The equation See PDF for Equation fits the growth of well nourished rats from weaning on. The general properties of the equation, and particularly its relation with the law of relative growth, are discussed.

“…However, the purpose of the adjusted percentage recommendation was that it apply broadly. In fact, this was alluded to earlier (Weinstock, 1972, p. 3IS) when reference was made to the work of Zucker and Zucker (1942). Inspection of their Figure 1 shows that the function relating weight gain in rats from birth to about 70 weeks of age is a negatively accelerated increasing one, with the greatest acceleration occurring from about 0-16 weeks.…”

“…Normal growth is defined as growth limited by heritable (Kempster, 1937) and nonheritable influences. Diet is one of the most important of the nonheritable influences as shown by Zucker et al (1941aZucker et al ( , 1941bZucker et al ( , 1942 and others (Dunn el al., 1948;Mayer 1948). Progressively newer understanding of nutrition, which is fundamental to the general physiology of growth, suggests progressive and timely re-evaluation of previous growth data.…”
