Abstract: Background: Piperacillin/tazobactam (PTZ) extended infusion (EI) is often used empirically in the intensive care unit (ICU). Gram-negative (GN) organisms with PTZ minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) >16/4 µg/mL are considered intermediate or resistant.
