A single layer stub-patch phoenix cell for large band reflectarrays

Abstract: To cite this version:Hassan Salti, Raphaël Gillard. A single layer stub-patch phoenix cell for large band reflectarrays. Abstract-A novel Phoenix cell for large band reflectarray antennas is presented here. The cell starts with a simple square patch whose phase shift is controlled by its sides' length. The size of the patch is then fixed and open-stubs with variable length are connected to it. To complete the phase range at the central frequency, the stub-loaded patch then shrinks gradually until it disappears… Show more

“…This so-called rebirth capability theoretically enables designing RA with smooth geometrical variations on the reflecting panel. The concept of Phoenix cells has been proposed originally in [26] and different possible geometries have then been studied such as [28,29]. A new step has been passed in [27] where two different geometries, one capacitive and the other inductive, are combined successively to form the Phoenix cycle.…”

“…This phase response fits well with the ideal model used to derive (18), although the linearity is not perfect. The second cell, the Stub-Patch Phoenix cell was introduced recently in [1]. It improves the bandwidth further due to the three possible operating modes it offers: a patch mode, a stub mode, and a combined patch-stub mode.…”

“…This paper is an extension of work originally presented in the 11th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP) where a novel single layer stub-patch Phoenix cell is suggested as a broadband and easy solution to fabricate reflectarray (RA) elements [1].…”
