A SOA-Based System for Territory Monitoring

Abstract: Next is a presentation of the complete system architecture, followed by a discussion of the details of the various services. Amongst these services, management and simulation of tactical planning, management of data and streaming video, the system also presents a service for the annotation of the interested spatial objects. Annotation deploys the web services (Alonso, Casati, Kuno, & Machiraju, 2004) exported by OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap) with the purpose to exploit the on-line information sources conti… Show more

“…MDR is one of the geo-processing services integrated in middleware layer of the SOA architecture of SMAT. As described in Roglia and Meo (2010), the architecture is constituted by a multi-tier system that contains a client, a middleware and a data layer. Each layer has the role to control a specific category of software components: database services (GIS and DBMS), geo-processing services and user applications.…”

“…In order to better contextualize the data, a data mining tool (called MetaDataRetrieval) has been developed. This module is able to automatically extract relevant (geographic and social metadata) information concerning the area of interest from publicly available sources on the WEB (e.g., Geonames and OpenStreetMap), see [9,10] for details.…”

“…The software architecture developed for the SMAT-F1 project is a high performance, broad bandwidth service oriented architecture that supports coupling of archives and real-time geo-spatial data with scientific applications such as simulation, visualization and analytical software [3]. The system architecture is the result of working activities involved in SMAT-F1.…”
