A Solid Modeling System for Large-Scale Point-Clouds Using Image-Based Interface(<Special Issue>19th Design & Systems Conference)

Abstract

Mid range and long − range laser scanners are capture dense point − clouds froln engineering facilities ． The captured point − clouds can be converted to smooth mesh models by using streaming operatiolls ． 正 n this paper ， we discuss a solid modeling systenl based on large sca 艮 e rnesh 【 nodels ． When all enginee 畑 g faciliLy is 皿 easured by a laser scanner ， cQmponents are scalmed only from the 弖 imited directions ， and they 1 皿 ay be partial 王 y occluded by other components ． To construct so 旺d models using such incon ｝plete mesh models ， we introduce modeling and editing eperations based on the reflectance iinages ， which can be generated from point clouds ， We also show how to generate 3D n ユodels of standard parts ． Key VVords ； Point − Based Modeling ， Imuge − Based Modeli ， Interactive Modeling
