A spot test for aqueous phosphate by color band formation

Abstract: Phosphate is generally analyzed by color intensity of phosphoantimonylmolybdenum blue (PAMB): especially by a spot test based on spectrophotometric or visual determination. Visual determination is one of the simplest and most inexpensive methods; however, it is believed to be of low precision. In this work, we have developed an alternative phosphate spot test, where phosphate concentration is measured by the color band length of PAMB formed in a detection tube similar to a gas detection tube. The color band is… Show more

“…Down sizing of sample preparation techniques for liquid-phase separations has been studied along with the effective on-line coupling of the miniaturized sample preparation technique to LC separation methods [56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65]. As similar to the successful applications of particulate chemically-bonded stationary phases in LC to an extraction medium in solid-phase extraction, several types of fiber-packed capillaries were introduced as the extraction medium in microscale sample preparation techniques Chromatograms for the separation of dodecane, tetradecane and hexadecane on a short polymer-coated fiber-packed capillary column with the rapid temperature programming.…”

“…The phosphate analysis method was designed on the basis of formation of phosphoantimonylmolybdenum blue (PAMB) reported originally by Murphy and Riley. [16][17][18][19] The ion pair can also be entrapped by a C-18 (ODS) column and can be extracted with polar solvents such as methanol and CH 3 CN. [13][14][15] In our previous work, ion pair formation was employed for the spot test for phosphate analysis, where PAMB was entrapped on the packing material in a mini column with a blue color band formed in the column.…”
