A State-of Art of Creative Sensor Devices Utilizing Magneto- Rheological Fluids

Abstract: This article presents the state-of-the-art sensors design based on magneto-rheological (MR) fluid. In smart materials, the magneto-rheological fluid is one of the prominent material, which changes rheological properties on application of magnetic field. The MR fluid is mainly used for designing the dampers, clutches and mounts for heavy vehicle systems. However, the MR fluid can also be used for sensor design applications, which has not been much reported in the literature. This review paper summarizes the des… Show more

“…The principal of damping system in loudspeaker basically can be done by controlling MRF shear yield stress in the surround gap area. This technique is carried out by making changes of the surround resonant occurred frequency due to in viscosity of the MR fluid input electrical current to the coil [28]. Figure 1 shows that O-Ring was designed to accommodate the MRF container by two layers.…”

“…Since MR damper can generate high damping force, Do and Choi [18] investigated the design configuration of MRF mount considering vibration control subjected to high load, principal design parameters of the pressure, magnetic field, dimension, the stiffness and damping, and the operation capability. On the other hand, Kaluvan et al [19] reviewed MRF as sensor applications instead of actuators. It has been introduced that MRF can be utilized to measure the resonance of vibration modes, current level, flux magnitude, MRF variable resistor, field-dependent tactile device, and stiffness controllable tactile device.…”
