A statistical analysis of the COHERENT data and applications to new physics

Abstract: The observation of coherent elastic neutrino nucleus scattering (CEνNS) by the COHERENT collaboration in 2017 has opened a new window to both test Standard Model predictions at relatively low energies and probe new physics scenarios. Our investigations show, however, that a careful treatment of the statistical methods used to analyze the data is essential to derive correct constraints and bounds on new physics parameters. In this manuscript we perform a detailed analysis of the publicly available COHERENT CsI … Show more

“…In contrast to the case of the stopped-pion source, reactor-based experiments are only sensitive to the mixing of the electron neutrino with the sterile state. Finally, CEνNS has been proposed as a new probe of lepton unitarity and sterile neutrinos [131,132].…”

“…By comparing the measured NC flux to the theoretical prediction we can hence obtain constraints on tau neutrinos. 19 From [91] using the standard solar model the theoretical expectation for the 8 Be flux is (A.30) 18 It has been shown in [89] that a careful statistical treatment is necessary to obtain robust constraints on new physics parameters. This conclusion was derived for the example of non standard interactions.…”
