A stochastic estimation of sediment production in an urban catchment using the USLE model

Abstract: The goals of this study were to map the spatial distribution of sediment production and to estimate the probability of this production at the waterline based on a high potential of silting. The RUSLE-GIS model and Monte Carlo simulation were used. A sensitivity analysis of stochastic factors was performed by calculating the simple correlation coefficient. This procedure was applied to the Estrada Nova catchment, located in the city of Belém, northern Brazil, which has been subject to channel improvements and t… Show more

“…The values of the factors range from 0 to 1, depending on the type of land cover. The lower the value, the more resistant to erosion (Lisbôa et al 2017;Aouichaty et al 2022;Chen et al 2023). The C-factor values are in accordance with the paper (Seleznev et al 2022).…”

“…In some cases, the C-factor and P-factor (support practice factor) have been treated together as the CP factor [4,[98][99][100][101][102][103][104][105][106][107]. For a managed artificial forest, the C-factor is closely related to the forest's age [108].…”

“…Here, RCP represents for Representative Concentration Pathway defined by IPCC, and RCP 8.5 scenario imply that emissions continue to rise throughout the 21 st century. The first step is to define the catchment areas, which are the standard units used for installing the technology [20]. The initial analysis of the individual catchments becomes the basis for the subsequent technology installations, establishing the spatial arrangement of the various disaster prevention technologies utilized.…”
