A Strategic Review on Carbon Quantum Dots for Cancer-Diagnostics and Treatment

Abstract: The understanding of the genesis of life-threatening cancer and its invasion calls for urgent development of novel technologies for real-time observations, early diagnosis, and treatment. Quantum dots (QDs) grabbed the spotlight in oncology owing to their excellent photostability, bright fluorescence, high biocompatibility, good electrical and chemical stability with minimum invasiveness. Recently, carbon QDs (CQDs) have become popular over toxic inorganic QDs in the area of bioimaging, biosensing, and drug de… Show more

“…Natural plant-derived CDs, a major precursor of green biomass with rich chemical composition, have aroused wide attention for green sources and remarkable bioactivities [ 21 , 48 ]. Nowadays, bottom-up methods have aroused the interest of scientists for their double advantage of being straightforward and economical [ 27 , 49 ], such as hydrothermal method and pyrolysis method.…”

“…The most notable property of these nanoparticles is their luminous nature. As a result, CQDs have been extensively utilised in the domains of photocatalysis, 17 solar technology, 18 ion detection, 19 bioimaging, 20 and light-emitting devices. 21 There are many ways to make CQDs; some of the more well-known routes include electrochemical oxidation, 22 microwave irradiation, 23 laser ablation, 24 hot injection, 25 hydrothermal, 26 and pyrolysis.…”
