The gradual disappearance of deep-water marine fauna during the early Eocene (Apollonia Formation) and the gradual appearance of large nummulitids and coarsening upward of allochems during the middle Eocene (Darnah Formation) indicate a shallowing-up trend that lasted until the end of Miocene (Abdulsamad et al 2009).
