Data which were collected using Internet Addiction Test (IAT) and Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) tools from 984 randomly sampled tertiary education students in Malawi is described in this paper. The questionnaires were designed on Google forms, but both online and printed forms were employed to enhance response rate. Stored in Mendeley data repository, the data set includes basic demographic information about study participants, frequency of internet and social media use, and transformed variables linked to cases of common mental disorder. Although the data was primarily collected to assess the link between internet addiction and mental health among college students in Malawi, it is a potential source for the several psychometric studies. Moreover, the presented SRQ-20 data should also be useful for measuring anxiety and studying psychiatric symptoms and personality type among the college students. The study design, materials and methods used when collecting this data may also be replicated in other related psychological research studies in the educational field.

Young children and teenagers are the internet generation that is called generation Z. They are more exposed to and keen to use digital devices especially smartphone. However, most of them tend to be addicted to these devices, which can adversely affect their mental health and well-being. An integrated approach should be of concern and vitally in needs to some extent at least reduce the negative impact of this smartphone addiction. Fortunately, this study is purposely conducted with the aim to identify suitable feature in developing a software as a medium that can reduce smartphone usage and thus prevent smartphone addiction. An empirical research was done through an online survey to identify the features of a game design to develop a computer application that can reduce smartphone usage. The study focuses on parents with children under 7 years of age and has a total of 253 respondents. Based on the findings, the main features that can be implemented to design the game for reducing smartphone usage among young children are strategy game and building block.

Background: Due to ease of access and affordability, globally 4.95 billion people are using the internet for multiple purposes. However, this use has resulted in the emergence of some novel problems. Objective: Our objectives were to find the frequency and distribution of internet addiction by gender and type (public/private sector medical students) in medical student of KPK. Methodology: This was an analytical cross-sectional study. A sample size of 365 was calculated using the Raosoft SPSS calculator. The sampling procedure was conducted through the non-probability consecutive technique. The data collection was carried out by using Young IAT scoring criteria. Demographic variables were sex and the type of medical student of KPK. The Chi-square test was used to find an association between variables. Result: Out of total 365 participants, 205(56%) were male and 160(43.8%) were female. According to the Young’s IAT form, 172(47.1%) were normal users 173(47.4%)were problematic and 20 (5.8%) were internet addicts. There was no statistically significant association between internet addiction with sex and the type of students with a p-value of 0.589 and 0.654. Conclusion: In our study, there was no significant association between internet addiction with gender and the type of medical student.
