A Study of Fatigue Data Editing using the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT)

Abstract: This study presents the development of the STFT-based fatigue data editing technique that will be used as a tool to accelerate for accelerating fatigue testing. This technique was performed by removing low amplitude cycles contained in the original signal in order to produce a shortened signal using the Short-Time Fourier Transform (STFT) parameter. The effectiveness of STFT power spectrum was validated using an SAE random fatigue data in order to indicate the relationship between STFT parameter and fatigue da… Show more

“…This method has the advantage of adapting the Fourier transform to analyze only a small section of the signal at a given time. STFT splits the signal into small sequential or nested data frames, in contrast to the FFT method applied to all data frames [51]. For this reason, the STFT method is more efficient than the FFT method if the amount of data is large [45].…”

“…STFT uses single resolution to divide the data into uniform time-domain segments, which is more concise and efficient for the selection and deletion of small loads. 20 This paper proposes the concept of applying superposed power spectral density (SPSD) to identify fatigue damage events contained in the stress-time history. SPSD is obtained by accumulating the power levels of points in the same window.…”
