A Study of Misaligned Micropolar Lubricated Membrane Compensated Hybrid Journal Bearing System

Abstract: The present work aims to analytically study the performance of misaligned four-pocket, membrane compensated, hybrid journal bearing system operating with micropolar lubricant. In the present study, the flow characteristic of the lubricating oil containing additives and contaminants has been modeled using Erigen’s micropolar theory. The journal misalignment which may occur as a result of noncentral loading, improper assembly, shaft deflection due to elasticity and thermal distortions, etc. has been accounted fo… Show more

“…Therefore, Newton-Raphson iterative technique is used to solve the non-linear modified Reynolds equation (24). The detailed description of this iterative technique has been presented in Sharma et al 18 The unit INDAT reads the input data and the 2D mesh of the bearing system. Then, unit FTHIK calculates the fluid film thickness at nodal points for the tentative values of the journal center position.…”

“…His study indicates that the stiffness of these bearings can be increased using variable-flow restrictors rather than fixed restrictors. In recent times, many studies [16][17][18] were performed to investigate the performance of an externally pressurized journal bearing compensating with membrane restrictor. These studies indicate that the performance of bearing system in terms of fluid film stiffness and damping coefficients significantly improves with membrane restrictor.…”
