A Study of Substituted Aliphatic Sulphides on the Corrosion Behaviour of Zinc in Ammonium Chloride Solution

Abstract: Sulphur containing organic compounds decreases the corrosion rate by increasing the hydrogen over potential on zinc metal due to their electron donating groups. Their inhibiting effect was found to be associated with their adsorption on the active centers of the metal. The inhibition efficiencies of some aliphatic sulphides in ammonium chloride solution have been studied by weight loss studies, polarization and impedance measurements. The effect of substituent groups is correlated with their inhibition perform… Show more

“…The potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance were done when the potential of the working aluminium electrode reaches the steady value E corr (by varying not˂than2mV/min). By sweeping the potential in the predetermined range from -ve to +ve at a rate of 10 mV/sec, the potentio dynamic polarization study was done 9 .The various corrosion kinetic parameters are obtained from this study on aluminium with and without adding the inhibitor of different concentration. Electrochemical impedance analysis was done with AC signal having an amplitude of 5mV.…”

“…Nitrogen-containing compounds are commonly applied as corrosion inhibitors .The dissolution behavior of zinc in acidic and nearly neutral media is known to be inhibited by nitrogen and sulfur-containing organic compounds. Studies of the effect of organic additives on the corrosion rate of zinc had been the subject of many investigators [20][21][22][23][24][25]. Hence, the study on corrosion of zinc based alloys and its control is an active area of research.…”
