A Study on Control Strategy for Air Conditioning of Western Exposed Rooms in Subtropical Region

Abstract: Recently, energy saving has been a major issue in all aspects. In buildings, air conditioning is one major part of power consumption. In this study, we examined the effect of an intermittent control strategy for air conditioning on energy saving in western-exposed rooms under subtropical weather conditions. The strategy applied periodic deactivation and reactivation to the air conditioners. Room temperatures, power consumption, and readings from sensors of air conditioners of two identical rooms were monitored… Show more

“…The objective of this study is to use SPINLab [18,19] as an experimental platform to observe the thermal insulation performance of clear glass with windows films after changing some testing parameters. The parameter items include clear glass (OG), heat-absorbing film, reflective film, and building orientation (east, south, west, and northwest).…”

“…The temperature and humidity sensors are suspended 1.6 m above the ground. The human heat dissipation heat load data indoors was referred to in several references [18][19][20][21][22]. This study simulated that two people are using two computers in each room.…”

“…If the temperature difference between inside room and outside (in atmosphere) is more, the HVAC unit will consume more electricity to cool the inside room air up to the desired thermostat setting. It has been observed by several scholars [14][15][16][17] that keeping thermostat setting lower to cool the space rapidly is leading to more electricity consumption without achieving the desired goal.…”
