A Study on estimation of three-dimensional tolerances based on simulation of virtual machining in turning processes including kinematic motion deviations

Abstract: The geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is one of the most important characteristics of machined parts. A systematic method is proposed in the paper to simulate the shape generation processes in turning operations, to estimate the geometric dimensioning and tolerancing of the turned faces, based on the machining parameters. The simulation model includes both the models of the shape generation motions considering kinematic motion deviations and the cutting tool geometries. The shape generation motions with d… Show more

“…The coordinate systems are set according to ISO 230-1:2012(ISO 230-1, 2012. The turning processes are carried out by the spindle rotations, the linear feed motion along Z-axis and the depth of cut along X-axis (Thasana, et al, 2015).Therefore, eight Cartesian coordinate systems of the turning processes to simulate the virtual machining as shown in Fig. 2 are set to represent the kinematic motion deviations, tool wear and workpiece deflection.…”

“…In this research, the reference datum to measure the 3D tolerances of the turning surface on assessment cylinders were adapted from Thasana et al (2015). The assessment cylinders were generated based on all the 3-dimensional coordinate data generated by the 3-dimensional turning process simulations.…”
