A Study on Public Housing Policy for Implementing Social Sustainability: Focused on Affordable Housing in Hawaii, USA

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to derive useful policy implications for Korea by examining the case of Hawaii state in US, which pursues social sustainability through the supply of high-quality affordable housing in cities. “…The growth of the third sector was accompanied by the establishment of the Korean Social Housing Association (KSHA), a coordinating organization for social housing projects, in 2015. Consisting of 89 members of nonprofit housing co-ops and social housing enterprises, KSHA has created a major window of communication between the government and its members and is the key contributor towards formulating related ordinances, creating programmes and channelling government funds (Lim, 2018). This increased investment in the social economy is testament to the government's strategy to revitalize the stagnant national economy by facilitating the commercial functions of socially responsible agencies.…”
