Milk a natural rich lacteal secretion that provides all essential nutrients required by body. This study was designed to detect milk adulterants alongwth various physiochemical factors in milk sold in Quetta market. A total of 120 raw milk samples were collected hygienically and subjected to milk adulteration Kit (UVAS Lahore). Results revealed that overall, 11.66 % samples revealed adulteration with any single chemical adulterant. Water and powdered milk were the major adulterants found almost in all samples. On towns basis Zarghoon town samples were more adulterated (18%) than Chiltan Town samples (5%). Other parameters such as, Electrical Conductivity, pH, Fat percentage, Total Solids and Solid Not Fat were observed below than normal values in most of the samples. Adulterants like Urea, Hydrogen Peroxide, Sorbitol, Boric acid, Quaternary Ammonium Compound, Carbonate, Soap and Alcohol were not detected in any sample. However, Sodium chloride (1.66 %), Formalin (3.33 %), Hypochlorite (2.5 %), Starch (2.5 %) and sugar (4.16 %) were detected. This study explores the potential health hazard due to adulterated milk sold in retail outlets in Quetta market. There is dire need of regular monitoring of milk and its products by concerned food authority. These findings will help to build a concrete strategy to curtail this problem and improve the life standards of people.

Two types of the milk samples i.e. 30 raw and 20 packaged (total 50) were collected from 10 different cites (Dankeen Ganj, Panditan, Railway Bazar, Bus Station, Bharhuna, Vindhyachal, Peelikothi, Awas Vikas Colony, Wellesly Ganj and Mahuria) of the Mirzapur city. Adulteration tests were conducted for urea, salt, soap, skimmed milk power, glucose, formalin, salicylic acid, boric acid, starch and ammonium sulphate. 80%, 56% and 54% samples tested were found positive for urea, salt and soap, respectively. While, 42% milk samples were found positive for skimmed milk powder test. Only 10% samples were positive for glucose. Similarly, 36% of milk samples were found positive for formalin. The extent of adulteration of salicylic acid, boric acid, starch and ammonium sulphate is depicted that 56% and 32% number of milk were noticed positive for salicylic acid and boric acid. It is also evident from the findings that 38% samples were adulterated with starch. While, 12% of collected samples (raw and packaged) were observed positive for ammonium sulphate.

An electrochemical biosensor was developed to determine formaldehyde (HCHO) adulteration commonly found in food. The current responses of various electrodes based on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and synthesized nanocomposite (CNT-Fe 3 O 4) were measured using cyclic voltammetry. The nanocomposite based biosensor shows comparatively high sensitivity (527 lA mg/L-1 cm-2), low detection limit (0.05 mg/L) in linear detection range 0.05-0.5 mg/L for formaldehyde detection using formaldehyde dehydrogenase (FDH) enzyme. In real sample analysis, the low obtained RSD values (less than 1.79) and good recovery rates (more than 90%) signify an efficient and precise sensor for the selective quantification of formaldehyde in orange juice. The developed biosensor has future implications for determining formaldehyde adulteration in citrus fruit juices and other liquid foods in agri-food chain to further resolve global food safety concerns, control unethical business practices of adulteration and reduce the widespread food borne illness outbreaks.
