“…These results are also consistent with the socioemotional selectivity theory, suggesting that younger individuals tend to have larger and more varied social networks, which consist of a greater number of relatively new acquaintances (Carstensen et al 1999). Similarly, Durualp and Çiçeko glu (2013) found that Turkish adolescents who do not have close friends and report dissatisfaction with their relationships are more likely to experience loneliness. During and after adolescence, having friends becomes increasingly important, and teenagers often seek out peer groups with whom they can share their innermost thoughts and problems, as well as enjoy themselves (Baran 2011).…”

“…The YRBSS in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified health‐risk behaviors like the use of tobacco products, alcohol, and other substances, poor/unbalanced diet, lack of physical activity, risky sexual behaviors, and unintentional injuries and behaviors contributing to violence (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023). This questionnaire form was created by the researchers in accordance with YRBSS and with the literature (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2023; Durualp & Çiçekoğlu, 2013; Zhang et al, 2015). This form consisted of 26 questions to be responded yes/no under‐five headings: nutrition, injury, physical activity, hygiene, and healthy lifestyle behaviors.…”

“…Orphans encountered various types of hurdles within the institution. Mangoma et al (2008) and Durualp & Cicekoglu (2013) argued that it is defficult for the staff to fully concentrate on a large number of children (IJzendoorn & kranenburg, 2012). Moreover, there is no monitoring and accounability mechanism to check the cases of orphans abuses and neglect (Browne, 2017).…”

“…Living in a new environment, being separated from their parents and sometimes from their siblings also makes these children feel hopeless, resulting in a feeling of loneliness. It is a proven fact that in orphanages, children who are away from their families and social environment are at risk of loneliness (Mangoma et al, 2008;Durualp & Cicekoglu, 2013). Self-awareness is viewed very important for child development but in orphanages, the social environment is considered not conducive for the development of selfawareness.…”
