A study on the operation of a gas turbine unit using hydrogen as fuel

Abstract: The last decade has been driven by the impact of environmental challenges on the energy industry. Decarburization policy is the driver of the global energy transition. Hydrogen can be used as an alternative to natural gas, kerosene, and diesel fuel. A large-scale conversion of generating equipment to hydrogen fuel would significantly reduce carbon impact on the world because the product of hydrogen combustion is water. This paper focuses on the combustion of pure hydrogen in a GE 6FA power gas turbine. A mathe… Show more

“…A brief discussion of hydrogen power options is merited, not least because this simplifies airside energy use calculations. Several options, including fuel cells [24] or hydrogen gas turbines [25] are currently available, all with very high TRL. For the proposed application, fuel cells are most suitable: they have a very high efficiency (50-60%), and a very high time between overhaul (TBO) of between 5000-25000 h [24]-a particular advantage at remote airfields or for marine UAVs.…”

Several options, including fuel cells [7] or hydrogen gas turbines [29] are currently available, all with very high TRL. “…With the aim minimization of waste disposal and improving production of gas-turbine installation GE 6FA, it is considered the possibilities of usage of hydrogen as a major fuel, for implementation of the given task it is used program complex ASGCPT, as well as in this article it is considered perspective direction of utilization of CO 2 with the usage of high-qualified technology and its future utilization. Special peculiarities of research [6] that is focused on burning hydrogen in the gas-turbine GE 6 FA, for this reason authors used program complex ASGCPT, with the help of that mathematical sample was produced. Within it is considered power level GTU from 40 till 77 MW.…”
