“…We have compared this prevalence rate with recent global rates, as well as with the most recent (or available) prevalence rates which have previously studied the epidemiology of active epilepsy in both developing and non-developing countries (Table 6). Our data suggest that the prevalence of active epilepsy cases in the Saudi’s population is less than those reported globally (6.38/1,000 persons) [7], as well as than the those previously reported in the USA, some European countries (i.e., Italy, Denmark, Finland, and Turkey), and some Latin American countries (Brazil and Ecuador) which had an average prevalence rate of 5–9.9/1,000 persons [15-21]. Also, the prevalence of epilepsy in our study population are less than those reported in some Arabic-African countries (4.04/1,000 in Tunisia, and 7.9–9.3/1,000 persons in Egypt) [13, 22, 23] as well as some Asian countries including Pakistan, Japan, India, Korea, and Taiwan where the prevalence of the active cases were 9.9, 6.9, 4.6–10, and 5.85/1,000 persons, respectively [24-27].…”
