In order to address the long-standing issues in English language teaching, including “focusing on language knowledge and skills”, “weakness in cross-cultural communication abilities”, “prioritizing language over culture”, “absence of critical thinking”, “uniformity in competences” and “separation of knowledge and affection”, a new model has been proposed based on the interpretation of key national policy documents. The model of “Integrating Cross Culture, Critical Thinking, Value Cultivation and Multiple Competences” (ICCVM in short) (Note 1) aims to implement educational reforms from various perspectives, such as talent cultivation, curriculum frameworks, textbook adaptation, teaching methods, and assessment models.Breaking away from the traditional language-centered approach, this model places moral value cultivation at its core. It systematically develops students’ innovative and research abilities, as well as their collaboration and negotiation skills, through cross-cultural linguistic activities and critical thinking language activities. The model strives to achieve an educational goal that integrates value shaping, knowledge imparting, and competence cultivation into one cohesive process. It is anticipated that this will enhance the overall quality of talent cultivation in English major, producing students who possess outstanding English skills and diverse competencies, profound cultural knowledge, as well as both an international perspective and a sense of Chinese identity.

Attitude and willingness of biodiversity conservation in Chinese university students: Associated factors and the mediation of social support

In this cross-sectional study of 1475 Chinese university students, we explored associated factors of attitude and willingness of biodiversity conservation, analyzed the hypothesized mediation by social support in the association between attitude and willingness of biodiversity conservation. Multivariate logistic regression model revealed that major and social support were prominently related to both attitude and willingness of biodiversity conservation. Besides, path model identified a statistically significant mediation by social support, sex, race, and family residence presented noticeable effect modification on the mediation of social support. These major findings suggest that intervention measures which aiming at enhancing social support could be considered for elevating attitude and willingness of biodiversity conservation among Chinese university students.

The protection of the environment is a matter of global concern that effects the population and endangers future generations. Consequently, the implementation of measures such as green taxation (also referred to in the international literature as environmental taxation and environmental law) is significant to effect behavioural change. In this context, the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is utmost importance in terms of sustainability and economic growth. This study aims to critically analyse the courses offered in the field of green taxation at the top 100 universities in the Shanghai Ranking, 2023. This analysis will contribute to the body of knowledge about the progress made in teaching green taxation and the measures that have been put in place by governments to this end. The study revealed that in European Union and China, the teaching of science and technology continues to be a dominant force.
