Joint Communication and radio Sensing (JC&S) has gained significant attention over the past few years. The advantages of this technology include reduced cost, size and power consumption. With further advancements in JC&S systems, it can potentially be used in next-generation cellular networks, internet-of-things and upcoming applications such as Industry 4.0, where a single system is capable of performing a wide variety of functions or tasks. The inclusion of this technology will result in improved performance and safety of the systems. Even though communication and radio sensing make use of a similar Radio Frequency (RF) front-end, the specifications for both these technologies mainly differ in terms of bandwidth and linearity. In this survey, a detailed study of the specifications of radar and communication was conducted. For the RF front-end to operate efficiently in both radar and communication modes, there must be reconfigurability in terms of frequency, bandwidth, gain and linearity. In this survey, we investigated different frequency, bandwidth, gain and linearity reconfigurable low noise amplifier (LNA) and downconversion mixer architectures. The merits and demerits of each architecture are discussed and a summary of the performance of the reconfigurable LNAs and down-conversion mixers in the literature is presented. this paper presents two novel designs for narrowband tunable low-noise amplifier implementation operating at two frequency standards of 850MHz and 1900MHz (cellular frequencies such as GSM, CDMA and DCS standards). Both designs benefits from a simple cascode topology with tunable input and output matching networks. Two novel methods to tune the input resonating frequency are introduced: (1) switched transistor width technique, and (2) switched extra Miller and gate-source capacitances technique. Each technique shows its own pros and cons. A comparison between the post-layout simulations results of two designs is made while they are fully matched in desired frequencies. This paper also gives a comparison table between these designs and other similar works in terms of RF performance. The 0.13-μm RF CMOS tunable LNAs have a minimum and maximum power dissipations of 2 and 4 mW, respectively, depending on the tuned resonating frequency.

A CMOS amplifier employing the frequency selective feedback technique using a shunt feedback capacitor is designed and measured. The proposed amplifier can achieve a high IIP3 (input referred third-order intercept point) by reducing the third-and second-order nonlinearity contributions to the IMD3 (third-order intermodulation distortion), which is accomplished using a capacitor as the frequency selective element. Also, the shunt feedback capacitor improves the noise performance of the amplifier. By applying the technique to a cascode LNA using 0.18-μm CMOS technology, we obtain the NF of 0.7 dB, an IIP3 of +8.2 dBm, and a gain of 15.1 dB at 14.4 mW of power consumption at 900 MHz.(43)When we compare b 3 , the third-order distortion coefficient of the low-frequency feedback (6), with B 3 ( jω b , jω b , À jω a ), that of the high-frequency feedback (34), we find that the second-order CMOS LOW NOISE AMPLIFIER
